Health Benefits of Avocado Oil

Learn all about the health benefits of avocado oil.

Avocado oil is oil from avocados pressed from the fleshy pulp surrounding the avocado pit.

Avocados are superfoods due to its rich nutrients, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Avocados have anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and anti-microbial properties.

Avocado oil has a neutral taste and has a high smoke point compared to olive oil.

Compared to highly processed vegetable oils like soybean, cottonseed and safflower oil, almost 70% of avocado oil consists of heart healthy oleic acid, a monosaturated omega 9 fatty acid.

Avocado oil may promote heart health by reducing high blood pressure levels and cholesterol levels.

Avocado oil is also rich in lutein, an antioxidant that helps promote skin health and eye health.

Avocado oil may also aid in wound healing and skin conditions such as psoriasis.

Avocado oil may also reduce oxidative damage that causes kidney damage in people with type 2 diabetes.

Avocado oil may also boost nutrient absorption. Studies have shown that using salad dressing containing avocado oil significantly increased the absorption of carotenoids from vegetables.

Avocado oil also has a high omega 6 to omega 3 ratio of 13 to 1 instead of the preferred 3 to 1 or 2 to 1 ratio.

Please note that omega 6 may promote inflammation in the body.

If you are allergic to avocado then do not consume avocado oil. People who have a latex allergy may also be allergic to avocado oil and therefore should not consume.

Avocado oil may interact with certain medications such as blood thinners.

As always consult with your physician.
