Hazelnuts is the fruit of the hazel tree mostly cultivated in Spain, Italy, Turkey and the United States. Hazelnuts are small and round.

Hazelnuts has essential vitamin and minerals including vitamin E, thiamine, magnesium, copper, folate, zinc, potassium, vitamin B6 and manganese.

Hazelnuts are rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats that are heart healthy fats.

Hazelnuts have anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown that consuming 60 grams of hazelnuts everyday for 12 weeks reduced inflammatory markers for participants who were overweight or obese.

Hazelnuts are rich in antioxidants including phenolic acids. Antioxidants help fight free radicals in the body and may help prevent the risk of chronic diseases. An 8 week study showed that consuming hazelnuts significantly decreased oxidative stress.

Hazelnuts may promote heart health. Studies have shown that participants with high cholesterol who consumed 18-20% of their total daily calorie intake from hazelnuts had reduced their triglycerides, and bad cholesterol levels.

Hazelnuts are rich in fiber and may help prevent constipation and promote a healthy digestion.

Hazelnuts may also help reduce blood sugar levels. Hazelnuts may also improve sperm count and quality.

Hazelnuts may also help reduce the risk of cancer but more research is needed.
