Cordyceps is a fungus, belonging to the ascomycetes (a- skuh-mai-suhts) family, that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for many centuries. The word Cordyceps is derived from two Latin words “cord” and “ceps” representing “club” and “head” respectively, describing it as a club fungi.

There are over 750 different species of Cordyceps found worldwide but the most common are Cordyceps sinensis and Cordyceps milataris. Cordyceps is a medicinal mushroom that is also considered a superfood, that has been traditionally used to treat infections, fatigue, respiratory conditions, diabetes, liver and kidney diseases and sexual dysfunction.

Cordyceps has anti-diabetic, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-cancer, neuroprotective and anti-arthritic properties.

Cordyceps is rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants help fight free radicals in the body and may help prevent the risk of chronic diseases.

Cordyceps contains essential vitamins and minerals including vitamin B1, B2, B12, vitamin K, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and iron.
