Cleavers (Galium aparine) also known as bedstraw or catchweed is an herb widely distributed in Europe, Northern Africa, and Asia from Great Britain and the Canary Islands to Japan. The extracts from aerial parts of cleavers are used as an herbal remedy in the form of infusions by patients as a diuretic, anti-inflammatory, tonic and astringent. In folk medicine, cleavers was topically used in Europe, Asia, and the Americas to treat skin diseases such as eczema, psoriasis and acne.
