Pipsissewa (chimaphila umbellata) also known as umbellate wintergreen, rheumatism weed or prince’s pine is an herb native throughout the cool temperate Northern Hemisphere including southern Canada and the northern United States. The stems and roots are commonly used for medicinal purposes. The leaves are used in condiments, candy extracts, and the flavoring of beer and tea.
Pippissewa has been know to treat urinary tract infections, fluid retention problems (swelling), bladder stones, epilepsy, anxiety, cancer, spasms, skin sores and blisters for hundreds of years.
Pippissewa may also help promote heart health.
Pippissewa may also help treat kidney issues, scrofula and chronic rheumatism.
Pippissewa may have some side effects if used in excessive quantity and or long term use including ringing in the ears, confusion, vomiting, and seizures.
Pippissewa may interact with certain medications.
