Health Benefits of Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy, which means cold therapy, is the practice of having your body exposed to extremely cold temperature for several minutes as medical therapy.

Cryotherapy is widely used to relieve symptoms of various diseases including inflammation, pain, muscle spasms and swelling, especially chronic inflammatory ones, injuries and overuse symptoms.

The common cold therapies are cold plunges or ice baths, cold swimming water, icepacks, ice massage, coolant sprays and whole body cryotherapy.

Whole body cryotherapy is when you immerse your body to extremely cold temperatures, as cold as -200 to -300 degree Fahrenheit in a cryotherapy chamber for a very short duration of time, typically about 2-3 minutes.

Cryotherapy has been used in sports medicine and also as a treatment for inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis.
